Karkala, Mar 20: Swachh Karkala Brigade team has been spreading the message about the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
The team, in association with Jaina Dharma Jeernodharaka Sangha, has undertaken the novel task of creating wall paintings which spread the message of creating a clean environment.
Different paintings created at the Jain Math, and walls of the Gomateshwara Betta and surrounding areas are aimed at giving rise to the concept of clean environment in the minds of the people. These pictures have been successful in drawing the attention of pedestrians, vehicle riders and tourists alike.
The monolith statue of Lord Bahubali and the Chaturmukha Basadi here have been attracting thousands of tourists. Access to the Betta is through the steps located near the Patnashetty Maidan. During the weekends and holidays, thousands of tourists and locals visit this place. As this area needs more attention and cleanliness, the walls of the Jain Math have been used first to spread the message of cleanliness and hygiene.
When drawing the paintings, care has been taken to see that several among them are from philosophy and Tulunadu culture. Retaining of trees without cutting them down, not cutting the tree when removing branches, concepts right from destruction of trees as imagined by people, live and let live, etc are painted here. These paintings have succeeded in giving rise an awareness about environment protection. Sriraksha, Santhosh Acharya and other painters have succeeded in creating excellent and beautiful paintings.
This effort is backed by the Swachh Brigade here. Advocate Suraj has also lent solid support for the effort. The paintings also try to introduce people and the tourists to the folklore culture of Tulunadu like car festival, Yakshagana, tiger dance, Bhoota Kola etc.
A member of the Brigade team, M K Vipuil Tej, says that after covering the 100 metres long walls of Jain Math, the work will be extended to other areas with the support of others.
