Mangaluru: Unidentified man steals gold worth Rs 1.4 lac under guise of house hunting

Mangaluru, Mar 19: A person who under the pretext of renting a house, stole a bag containing gold ornaments. The incident happened at Nithyananda Nagar, Belma village, Konaje police station limits.

A woman identified as Veena had been to her sister Ashwini's home in Nithyananda Nagar on Friday, March 19. Both of the sisters had later gone to Kanachur hospital in Natekal at about 10.30 am, living their mother home alone. 

Soon after, an unidentified person came to their residence, looking for a house to rent. He enquired about the same with their mother. When Veena returned home she discovered that a bag containing 3.5 sovereign gold mangalsutra and a gold chain weighing one sovereign was missing.

The total value of the two gold ornaments is said to be around Rs 1.4 lac. A police complaint in this connection has been registered at Konaje police station.
