JEDDAH, Jul 17 (Arab News): A gang of youths has been arrested in connection with a series of car and mobile phone robberies in the capital.
Riyadh police announced on Friday that the men, two Saudis and seven foreigners, were all in their 20s and used weapons to threaten victims.
The police said the gang members used stolen cars to rob 31 shops selling mobile phones and pre-paid cards in various parts of the city.
Director of Riyadh police Maj. Gen. Saud ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Hilal formed a team from the department of investigation and homicide to investigate the crimes, identify patterns and catch the offenders quickly.
"The team aimed to study the methods used to commit the thefts and examine evidence left behind by the criminals," a police spokesman said.
He added that the gang members were currently in police custody, where they are being interrogated to determine if they committed any other robberies.
