Mangaluru, Mar 18: Residents of Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) colony Kavoor resident's welfare association have complained of shoddy rainwater drainage work at 7th cross of Karnataka Housing Board Colony.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, president of the KHB colony residents’ welfare association president B Arun Kumar said, "There are nearly 400 houses in the colony. There is a storm water drain in the colony. The rainwater from Karnataka Electricity Supply Corporation colony, from a hill, and from our own colony flow through this single drain.

"While connecting the drain to Kudremukh colony from our colony, the actual size of the drain has been reduced as the areas has been encroached by a person using his political power during the construction work," he said.

A few residents also claim that as the compound wall has encroached the drain, it will likely create problems during the monsoon and people in the colony have to suffer. They also alleged that the work of the drainage constructed a few months ago is substandard.

I would like to draw kind attention of the Deputy Commissioner, Corporation Commissioner and Mangalore Police Commissioner regarding the following which were not handled by the Corporator’s nor the Mayor. 1) At Karangalpady new Cross Road (C.G. Kamath Road) A rain water moving Thodu/Canal/Channel is now a 24X7 Drainage flowing Thodu/Canal/Channel. As a result cockroaches and mosquitos have been increased in the vicinity and is getting 24X7 foul smell. 2) Near to Medicare building A.J. Shetty’s Multi Storied Building is coming up adjacent to it St. Aloysius College roadside 24X7 water leakage, moves on the road itself even after Corporaters and the Mayor are move on up and down several times keep a blind eye on it. I sincerely and humbly urge the D.C., P.C., and C.C to look into why it was not stopped so far and I urge authorities to set it right before it is too late for the people to agitate on the roads.

Are there any laws to prevent rain drains from becoming open sewage drains? What will happen when rains come and everyones' filth will wash up on the roads and adjacent homes/businesses?
