Bengaluru, Mar 12: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa took the Covaxin jab at the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru on Friday.
The Health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar, who has also handled the medical education department, who accompanied the chief minister to the Victoria Hospital also took the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
The 78-year-old chief minister, who just returned from his visit to Chikkaballapur district to participate in the Amrut Mahotsav to mark 75 years of Indian Independence along with state governor Vajubhai Vala.
Speaking to reporters after taking the vaccine shot, Dr Sudhakar appealed to all senior citizens and other persons eligible to get the vaccine to immediately register themselves and get vaccinated at the earliest.
It is always safer to be vaccinated and be protected, he said.
Dr Sudhakar, who is also a medical doctor, took the vaccination under the category of frontline health worker.
The COVID-19 vaccine is presently being administered to senior citizens of 60 years and above and those above 45 years with comorbidities under medical certificates.
