Udupi: Motivational talk on sports held at St Mary's, Don Bosco institutions

Udupi, Mar 12: A motivational talk on sports was organised by the St Mary's and Don Bosco institutions for students interested in sports and games. The programme began with a formal inauguration where Dayanadha Bangrea, international cricket player of UAE and Saftar Ali cricketer from Saudi Arabia were the guests and the correspondent of the educational institutions of Shirva, Fr Denis Alexander D'Sa was the president.

The principal of St Mary's College Dr Herald Ivan Monis, St Mary's PU college principal Irene, headmaster of Kannada medium Gilbert Pinto along with the physical education teachers of all the institutions were present on the dais. The PD of St Mary's College Jeff welcomed the gathering.

In his presidential remarks Fr Denis D'Sa conveyed to the students to take up sports seriously so that at least a few present in the auditorium can represent the country in different sports and games.

Dayanada Bangera who has represented UAE at the 1996 cricket world cup, enlightened the students about the importance and value of sports in one's life. He briefed about how his journey started from playing the game at the lowest level to representing a country at the national level. He narrated to the students his achievements like meeting the greatest players worldwide. coaching the under 13 teams of UAE and taking them to UK for the matches. He also explained the courses he had done for the purpose of becoming a coach. He is a B-grade cricket coach and has been a coach of many league teams. Bangera also encouraged the students to join the St Mary's academy so that he could help them to achieve greater heights in the field of cricket. He also enlightened them about job opportunities for sportsmen.

Bangera was accompanied by the old student of St Mary's college Saftar who also shared about his journey in cricket. How he went to Saudi Arabia for a job and turned out to be a league cricketer and a captain of one of the teams, and how he was motivated by the great Pakistani captain Imran Khan back then. He also told them how he was promoted in his job just because of cricket. He urged the students to work hard and to be dedicated to any sport and achieve greater heights.

Later, time was given for interaction between the students and the resource person where students clarified their doubts such as the corruption in the field of sports and how to overcome it. Sera, a student of St Mary's College proposed the vote of thanks and Edward Menezes compered the programme.
