Oberhausen, Jul 9: The psychic Octopus Paul who has become an international phenomenon after his 'bang on' predictions in the ongoing FIFA world cup, has again predicted. He has this time around again stuck with Spain and predicted that the Spanish Armada will roll at the Football world up for the first time ever and that they will prevail over stubborn Netherlands.
The ardent soccer followers could recall that right from June 12, 2010 when he first predicted that Germans would maul Australians in their first match, Octopus Paul has got it right all the time. He then predicted about German's shock defeat in the hands of lowly-placed Serbia. However, he shot to headlines when he got it right for the third time when he predicted Germa's hard-fought victory over Ghana.
He soon shot to fame after he predicted that his native land Englad will go down to Germany and in quaterfinals Argentina would be thrashed by the Germans. With his right predictions he became a hero in Germany. However, after he predicted that Germany will be eliminated by Spain in the semifinals, he suddenly turned villain for German fans and when finally Germany lost to Spain, fans who follow football religiously even wanted to kill him. Twitter, Face book pages were filled with the messages by German fans to serve them with Octopus Paul at the table during their weekend.
Sensing danger he has now been given complete security and a private security agency has been handed over with the responsibility to protect him in his aquarium based in Oberhausen in Germany.
The octopus said to have 'psychic powers' after predicting all of Germany's six World Cup games correctly, has had his say regarding the final in Johannesburg on Sunday – and it is good news for Spain. The two-year-old cephalopod, called Paul and based at the Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, decided that Spain would win the final by going for the mussel in the box with a Spanish flag rather than the one with a Dutch flag on it.
Before that, he had predicted that Germany will emerge victorious from their third-place play-off against Uruguay on Saturday night.
The Weymouth-born octopus has become an international celebrity after picking the winner in each of Germany's World Cup games in South Africa, including the surprise defeat against Serbia in the group stage and the loss to Spain in the semi-final.
However this could be Paul's last prediction since he may not be alive by the time next FIFA world cup is played. He is already two and half year old and generally octopus' life span is three to three and half years only.
