Jeddah, Jul 9 (Arab News): The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) has predicted further heat waves in the central, northern and eastern regions of Saudi Arabia within the next two days.
“Temperatures in Riyadh are expected to reach a high of up to 45 degrees Celsius and lows of up to 29 degrees Celsius,” said Adil Al-Subahi, general supervisor of Jeddah’s PME office.
“In Jeddah, temperatures are expected to reach a high of up to 41 degrees Celsius and a low of up to 29 degrees Celsius.”
According to the PME office, there are warm air mass and northern winds near Iraq and Kuwait, which will eventually cause temperatures to soar in Saudi Arabia.
Elevated regions can expect moderate temperatures. For instance, Abha is only expected to experience a high of 31 degrees Celsius.
The Jeddah PME office also predicted hot summer weather during this year’s holy month of Ramadan, especially in the central and eastern regions of Saudi Arabia, and moderate to somewhat mild weather in elevated regions.
Saudi residents have been wondering whether a heat wave advisory system will be implemented due to recent scorching weather.
“There has to be such a system implemented when extreme heat affects the city. It will ease people’s exposure to the heat, which can be harsh at times in the city,” said 25-year-old Jeddah banker Naif.
