Shivamogga: Son of Congress MLA Sangameshwar arrested over clashes

Shivamogga, Mar 7: Chitradurga police have arrested Basavesh, son of Congress MLA Sangameshwar in connection to the clashes that occured at Kanaka Mantap ground in Bhadravati last month.

A clash erupted during the prize distribution ceremony following a Kabaddi tournament on February 28.

Basavesh was arrested at Challakere here on Saturday, March 6.

There had been demand to arrest Basavesh following the incident. Police were on the lookout, on receiving information that Basavesh was hiding at a private hotel at Challakere, they raided the spot and arrested him.

Basavesh was produced in front of the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

His father, Bhadravati MLA Sangameshwar had recently protested in the legislative assembly by removing his shirt, alleging that cases were being deliberately lodged against him and his family in connection to the clash. Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde then suspended him from the session for a period of one week.
