Bengaluru: 'Police cannot ask documents in middle of road in case of traffic violation' - Bommai

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (DV)

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Home minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday, March 5 said that the traffic police are not supposed to ask for vehicle documents after they stop the vehicles in the middle of the road.

He was answering JD(S) MLC HM Ramesh Gowda's query during a 'question and answer hour' in the Council.

"It has come to my notice that the traffic police are stopping the vehicles in the middle of the road in instances of the traffic rules violation. Police should take precautionary measures to avoid accidents and other untoward incidents while stopping vehicles. Policies should be followed in such situations. In this regard, suitable directions have been given to the department," he said.

"Advanced technology will be used to trace traffic violations like overspeeding or incidents of signal jumping, in areas where there are no CCTV cameras," Bommai added.

There is no proposal before the government of forming the South Zone as there are East, West, and North Zones.

The vehicle documents should be such that the details can be obtained digitally from a distance, like a fastag. It would be easier for vehicle owners and police.

Only in Mangalore police are collecting good money by stopping the vehicles here and there for no reason. This is the second news on Daijiworld related to same issue but in reality nothing changed.

The Minister must remember that CCTV system always malfunctioned, all cameras found not to be working when checking for an evidence. Foremost repair that error. Secondly, cops can't sit checking for correctness of documentation of each passing vehicle, the least an owner can maintain is a Driving Licence and a copy of PCC in his vehicle. Those who depend on cops to check out for it, are really wasting time of the police. Random pulling aside of offenders helps the remaining law-abiding drivers.
