Mangaluru, Mar 4: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has secured the 20th rank in Ease of Living Index (EOLI) and 42nd rank in the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) in the assessment conducted for the year 2020 by the Urban Development Ministry, informed mayor Premananda Shetty.

He was speaking to media after minister of Housing Affairs, Hardeep S Puri, released the results of EOLI and MPI through the virtual conference on Thursday March 4.

The mayor said, “Public participation is very important in the assessment of Smart City projects. In the city, there are 34 ongoing works, out of which few are under the process of proposal and DPR. Under the Smart City project, focus will be given to develop the old port to improve the economy,” he said.

Bengaluru emerged as the top city on the government's Ease of Living Index 2020. Pune ranked second and Ahmedabad secured the third rank among 111 cities.

Prashanth Kumar Mishra, in-charge MD of SMCL, speaking to the media said that an affidavit has been submitted to the court, stating that the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) given by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) will be followed during the construction works. “The construction waste will be collected in the construction and demolition debris box. Already, a land has been identified for the process of C&D debris. Hopefully, the court may vacate the stay within a week,” he said.

Deputy mayor Sumangala Rao and corporator Sudhir Shetty Kannur were present.

Clearly this is a Joke right ? This city has diminishing returns in every field and wait for march - april the city will become a boiling pot of disasters with scorching sun eeking out the very life of the residents and add to this during may - june pot holes and puddles with water raverging on road blocking traffic due to pending works on drainaige systems , a smart city ? How on Earth is mangalore a smart city with infrastructure thats propells us backwards and have you seen any of the commercial buildings here , bearly all of them lack parking and non compliant buildings are a thing here, All of these problems are solely attributed to corrupt bureaucrats and politicians who sought only their benifit. Life in mangalore is a hassle if you are rich NRI, or a poor person . Mangalore has had the potential for sustainable development but it looks less and less appeling everyday.

the survey is a joke. Bangalore best?? - the surveyors have apparently lived only in the worst slums all their life. No comments about rank of Mangalore. If the eyesore called Mysore can get the 'cleanest medium sized city' tag, what can one comment on the quality of such surveys? Just a reminder that we are a mediocre nation.

In the ranking, 111 cities were selected. All cities of above million population that are 49 and 62 cities with less than million population were selected for survey. While Bangalore stands first in the million plus category, even in the points that gets highest. Mangalore comes 20 in the less than million population, but considering the points, it stands at 50 among 111 cities.

Surely 20 th rank in ease of living index because we Mangaloreans can cross the road if there is no traffic lights and zebra crossing. Rs. 10/- orRs. 12 can travel by the city bus, thanks to the private city bus mafia. We do not have mega industries or large industries only a handful of them so there is no much demand for accommodation and other necessities. Because of the smart City problems we are 20th otherwise would have been better off.

Mangaluru is a comfortable place to live in, provided you are assured of an abundant supply of " Hard Cash " from abroad or from local business enterprise... This city, or its outskirts, does not support any source of employment, for the educated youths... as it has been neglected for decades, by successive governments !!! Migration is the keyword !!! Moreover this serene land has been ravaged, by unpleasant elements, who have inevitably changed the demographic graph of this beautiful, conservative society.. Today it is widely considered as a flashpoint for communal conflagration !!!

Dear, Mangalore is a Tier-2 city by population. Actually Mangalore has quite more jobs and facilities compared to many Tier 2 cities of India and obviously other karnataka cities . There is some limitation. You cannot expect at once for a indian Tier 2 city to compete with American or chinese megacities interms of industries or jobs. Actually capital cities of few north indian states also cannot compete with Mangalore. But yeah Mangalore has lot of potential in all sectors

Chief Chef of Hilton Hotel, largest chain of hotels in the world, was once asked which was the best recipe he liked, out of thousands of recipes he supervised, he said he liked his mother's cooking. I lived in Canada, Dhahran in Saudi Arabia, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kinnigoli, No doubt, though Toronto and Dhahran are incomparable to our cities, they are not in my country. In India, by all means, I found Bangalore as No.1 by all means. But, if you ask me which place I would like to live, I would still love to live in the place where I was born and brought up, that is Bola, near Mundkur. But due to some reasons, I will be compelled to live in Bangalore, where my son is working.

Every Mangaloreean is proud of thier city regardless of what part of the world they live in. Mangalore is a great potential to be super smart city provided that proper roads, proper safe beaches , law and order without involvement of moral politics or policing etc., it's a beautiful city with great people providing that opportunity for younger grnearation available locally .
