Kundapur, Mar 4: There has been a practice to warn the thieves through boards hung in front of houses that the house is under the surveillance of Goddess Chowdeshwari of Sigandur, to keep the god-fearing thieves away. Likewise, people of Beejady village near here, who have made various efforts to get rid of the garbage disposal problem, and been frustrated by the issues created by heaps of garbage, have warned those who discharge their waste near the seat of the serpent god will be subjects of the curse of the god if they violate the instruction and dispose waste there.

Rich people arrive in their cars with loads of garbage and empty them into lush green thicket at Bellanki, Beejady in the taluk. They have been converting the area where there is a temple, into dirty spot. People of Bellanki area have now displayed a poster announcing that those who heap their garbage here will face the anger of the serpent god as the devotees will be invoking the God's anger against the guilty.

The interior road that joins the national highway through Kody and Beejady has thick thicket where the seat of Lord Nagabrahmalingeshwara is located. The area has hundreds of houses. People who visit the spot to spend time at the Kody beach throw waste there. The things they throw include plastic bags decomposed waste etc which make the areas to stink, and the cattle die after consuming plastic. The area has become a favourite spot for street dogs who keep fighting here because of the waste dump.

The locals had also arranged to keep a close watch by guarding in turns but that did not discourage the disposing of waste. Therefore they have prayed to Lord Nagabrahmalingeshwara to punish the guilty.

Many people believe that those who offer prayers at the temple here that is hundreds of years old, get their wishes fulfilled. Now the villagers have prayed to see that those who dispose of waste here get punished by the god. The villagers hope that the prayers to the Lord will be effective and the garbage throwers will desist from doing so.
