Udupi, Jul 2: The District Working Journalists’ Association organized Journalism Day at Hotel Kidiyoor rooftop auditorium here on Thursday July 1.
Rajashekar Koti, editor of Andolan, Kannada weekly published from Mysore inaugurated the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajashekar said that journalists have the responsibility to respond to the grievances of readers. The journalists are expected to respond to the socio-economic issues of society besides nation building. It was during the pre-independence era, journalists were exclusively striving towards freedom struggle, while the new generation of journalists’ in the present times have great responsibility to focus on societal concerns, he said.
Subrahmanya Padukone, editor of Janapratinidhi, Kannada weekly published from Kundapur, near here and state president of Working Journalists’ Association was felicitated for bagging award for his article on forest conservation.
Renowned psychologist Dr P V Bhandary delivered a talk on managing stress and pressure at work, at the same occasion.
Dinesh Kini, District Working Journalists’ Association president and district representative of National Working Journalists’ Association presided.
Secretary Kiran Manjanabail welcomed the gathering. Journalist Balakrishna Shibarla compered the programme. The exhibition of pictures, cartoons and arts by the members of district Working Journalists’ Association too was held.
