Mumbai, Jul 2: Ramchandra Nadar, who specialised in teaching children with learning disabilities, tutored the girl at her Carter Road house and raped her when her parents were not at home.
The parents of the girl have alleged that he threatened to harm her if she told anyone.
After the allegations surfaced, Nadar fled the city. He was arrested on Thursday when he came to the Sessions Court at Kala Ghoda to file an anticipatory bail application. “Nadar said he was constantly on the run all this while.
We had even sent a team to his hometown in Tamil Nadu but could not find him. We finally arrested him after his application was rejected,” senior inspector Mangesh Pote said.
Nadar, well-known for his special skills, charged Rs 12,000 per month for each student.
"He had about half a dozen students in Vile Parle and Andheri as well. We have information that he has even taught wards of some celebrities but we need to verify that," said an officer, who did not wish to be named.
The 52-year-old, who lives in Vakola, has a daughter who is pursuing an MBBS in Russia while his son is studying engineering in Britain, police said. “We have booked him under Sections 376 (Rape), 377 (Unnatural sex) and 506 (Criminal intimidation),” said Pote.
Nadar was hired by the victim's family in January as the girl had learning disabilities. Nadar took advantage of the situation as both parents were working and the only person in the house was a maid.
PI B Mukhedkar of Khar Police Station, said, "He used to teach her between 4 pm and 7 pm. He asked for complete privacy. The maid never disturbed them.
He said, “One day, however, the girl's maternal aunt came home and found the tutor in a compromising position with the girl. She informed her parents who talked to the girl.
They lodged a complaint with us on May 30.”
