Mangaluru, Feb 21: In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Kerala, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has closed all interstate borders with Kerala, barring five major points namely Talapady, Saradka in Bantwal, Nettanige Moodnuru, Menala of Puttur, and Jalsur in Sullia.

The five entry points have check posts along with a health department team.

The administration has also made Covid-negative certificates not older than 72 hours, compulsory for the commuters who enter Karnataka.

Speaking to Daijiworld, deputy commissioner Dr KV Rajendra said, "In this regard, the government of Karnataka had issue directions on February 18. Travellers from the neighbouring states will be allowed only with RT-PCR negative reports. As there are several travellers from interstate borders, it is been informed to undergo RT-PCR test for free of cost at Wenlock hospital. Barring four major points, all 17 major points all will be closed. I will hold meetings with PDOs of gram panchayat on the borders of Kerala and Karnataka to setup check post points to allow the commuters after checking their RT-PCR test report. The daily commuters and students should undergo the RT-PCR test once in 15 days. This is a precautionary measure to contain the spread.”

There is no restriction for ambulances. But, co-passengers who accompany the patients should undergo the RT-PCR test (done 72 hours prior to check-in). Bus conductors should also focus on RT-PCR test reports.
