Sharad Pawar Takes Over as ICC President

Singapore, July 1 (IANS) Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sharad Pawar Thursday formally took over as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) here.

Pawar, who is the second Indian after Jagmohan Dalmiya to occupy the ICC top post, was given the charge during the annual conference week of the world cricket body.

Dalmiya was the first Indian to be elected to the president's post in 1997.

Pawar, who is also the Indian agriculture minister, is the seventh ICC president, succeeding Englishman David Morgan who concluded his two-year term.

He has taken over the top post at a crucial time when India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are scheduled to host the 2011 cricket World Cup.

congratulations. It's a day of prestigious not for only the Indians but also for the Indian sub continent cricket playing countries. From the cricketers point of view one should accept that any Asian who leads ICC means restoring code of conduct in the international cricket. We have seen many times in the past how injustice happened to our Indian cricketers while ICC was controlled by the Australians. As far as his political career concern, no need to bother about him for a common man. All politicians are sleepy nature. Let Powar wakeup at least for this case and moreover, if some people doubts about the corruption in ICC, my response will be let it be grabbed the opportunity an Indian instead inviting a foreigner. What’s wrong in it?????? Powar Saab all the best. Enjoy yr two years tenure.

In our country as person becomes old, they become more greedy for power and money. There should be a retirement age for persons who are holding public office post. Since Mr. Pawar has become President we can except more commercialisation of cricket rather than improvement.

Its a biggegst JOKE of cricket history. A person who has heaps of scandal, full of corruptions will lead world cricket. Now we all will see dramatic results in test and one day matches. Money will rule over game. This man who should have been busy with Agricultural reforms is busy with cricket, Why don’t they choose cricketers for this post, why corrupt politians?

It seems you donot know the background of pawar at all or you feigning ignorance of the same. your advice to clean up the match fixing is laughable as pawar was involved in corruption while he was CM of Maharashtra. Hence your comment never makes any sense here,

He will continue as so called agriculture minister. No wonder, this can happen only in our country. Now, where is that rule one person one post? This is like one person multiple roles to make money. Loot our nation you shameless creatures.

The Union Agriculture Minister!!!!!!!!!!haha . He is only seen in IPL or cricket issues in newspapers daily. I dnt think he have any time for his ministry work and development. he is party president ,he have role in BCCI,he have his own business, companies etc… now ICC. What he can do alone, how much time he can give for Union Agriculture Ministry and for poor Indian famer development. Already ministers are not doing their work, there should a rule that ministers should not take like this positions in Boards. We ed them to work for Agriculture not for cricket!!!!!!!!!!!!!
