Mangaluru, Feb 19: The fifty glorious years of the Tulu film industry which is also known as Coastalwood, was celebrated with the grand release of Tulu movie ‘Gamjaal’ and felicitation of personalities who contributed towards the growth of Tulu film industry here on Friday February 19 at Big Cinemas.
Fifty years ago, the first ever Tulu movie, ‘Yenna Thangadi’, was released. Till date, the Tulu film industry has seen 115 releases including ‘Gamjaal’.
Writer of ‘Yenna Thangadi’ Bojayya Suvarna, renowned director Richard Castelino and Thamma Lakshamana were felicitated for their contribution towards the Tulu film industry.
Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar inaugurated the programme and wished for the success of the movie.
Richard Castelino said, “Tulu movie ’Girgit’ has created a new trend and it will continue with ‘Gamjaal’. Single screen theatres are shutting down. Hence, it is up to cinema lovers to save Tulu films and support them.”
Actor Roopesh Shetty, Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, Prasanna Shetty, Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, director Prakash Pandeshwar, actress Karishma Amin and others were present.
‘Gamjaal’, produced under the banner of RS Cinemas, Shoolin films, Mugrody Productions, is complete entertainer with a social message.
Suman Suvarna and Naveen Shetty have directed the movie. Well-known actor-director Roopesh Shetty has written story and screenplay, Joel Rebello and Darrel Mascarenhas are the music composers. Popular comedians of Coastalwood, Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, Aravind Bolar, Prasanna Shetty Bailur, Sandeep Shetty, Karishma and others are part of the movie. ‘Gamjaal’ was shot during the lockdown period.
