Mangaluru, Feb 18: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport on Thursday, February 18 seized over a kilo of gold that was being smuggled by two passengers by way of body concealment.
The seized gold recovered from the duo is worth Rs 53,51,640.
The first passenger detained was Fathima Kottachery (47) from Kasargod for carrying gold by way of concealment in sanitary napkin. The passenger was identified by way of profiling and further questioning. Gold in powder form mixed with gum of 805 grams (net) valued at Rs 38,88,150 was seized.
Another passenger Mohammed Mohideen (50) from Bhatkal was also intercepted while trying to smuggle gold by way of rectal concealment. Gold in powder form mixed with gum, of 303 grams (net) valued at Rs 14,63,490 was seized.
Further investigation is under progress
The Customs team was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali IRS, deputy commissioner and active roles were played by officers Manokatyayini, superintendent and Bikram Chakraborty, superintendent, and others.
