Addressing the gathering Ravindra Pai said, "Real estate is an extremely important industry for the development of our country. Real estate is the second biggest contributor to GDP in India. Nearly, 6.5% to 7% of GDP in the country is contributed by real estate. If we add the contribution of allied industries like cement, steel, building materials and others, the contribution of GDP will rise up to 14%. In the perspective of employment, real estate is the second biggest employer in the country, after the agriculture sector. Every year the real estate sector creates employment for about 1.5 crore people."

"The real estate industry is also the largest generator of foreign exchange. It means FDI. Either in the form of investment or in the form of NRI investment. When people from abroad purchase a home they bring in foreign currency. These are the contributions of real estate to the country's economy," Ravindra said.

Speaking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making India a USD 5 trillion economy by 2024-25, Ravindra Pai said that the real estate industry will have play a major role in achieving this target. "Currently, real estate roughly contributes USD 180 billion to the economy. By 2030, real estate alone will contribute roughly about USD 1 trillion towards the economy," he added.

He maintained that the real estate sector also contributes to nation-building. "What we invest for, cannot be taken out of the country," he said.

He also said that the companies like Nirmaan Homes, Bhargavi Builders have to become model organizations.

"Mostly the middle class makes the biggest investment in real estate. So, as real estate builders or developers, we are selling dreams to customers. And it is our duty to ensure that their dream comes true," he said.

"Mangaluru as a city will completely transform by 2025. Measures have been taken to meet the demand for clean drinking water in the city. For this very reason, a new pipeline is being laid from Thumbe to Mangaluru at a cost of Rs 750 crore," Kamath said.
