Mangalore Jun 25: State Congress committee held a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here to urge the government to reinstate Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde on Friday June 25.
The protest was to inform that a cabinet minister wanted an officer to be suspended because the latter's probe had exposed that tonnes of iron ore were being illegally exported from Karwar. Such sincere officers should be appointed to duty, they demanded.
The protestors said that the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should request the lokayukta to take back his resignation and provide needed facilities to take his position without any fear. The corruption and injustice taking place in the system should be stopped to keep the citizens safe to live in the country, they added.
MLA U T Khadar, Vinay Kumar Sorake, district Congress vice-presidents Kallige Taranath Shetty, Suresh Ballal and Ibrahim Kudichal, district Congress general secretary Harikrishna Bantwal, M G Hegde, T K Sudhir and Sadashiva Ullal, Mahila Congress president Mamatha Gatti and Mangalore City Corporation opposition leader Ashok Kumar D K were present.
