Mangalore, Jun 25: “Go green to protect environment and prevent global warming”, said Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore while inaugurating the diocesan dream project of planting 2 lac saplings and nurturing them.
Earlier, he spoke on the harmful effects of global warming resulting in climate change, at the Diocesan Pastoral Council meeting held at Bishop’s House here on Thursday June 25.
The rising levels of global warming adversely affect life – human beings, flora and fauna. The reasons for this catastrophe are manifold. Among them are the excess use of nature and unnecessary tampering with nature by human beings due to greed. If the trend continues our life on this Earth is endangered. Therefore, it is important for each one of us to give a thought to this major problem.
Hence, the Mangalore Diocese has taken up the issue and has decided to plant 2 lac trees in and around the city during this rainy season. In this regard the Bishop also gave a call to every family in Mangalore to plant at least five fruit bearing trees by the end of this year’s monsoon and thus help save nature and protect our environment. He planted a sapling within the premises he of Bishop’s House on the occasion. .
