Bantwal, Jun 24: Relating to the assault on the deputy tahsildar and members of his team, during their raid at Sanoorpadav in Badagabellur-Kariangala to check a thriving illegal sand transportation racket on Monday June 21, the policemen of the rural police station here, have succeeded in arresting three persons on Wednesday June 23. All of them are expected to be produced in the court on Thursday.
The arrested men have been identified as A K Riaz, said to be a partner in the business, Nooyi Mohammed Shariff and Farooq, both of whom work as drivers of sand transportation tippers. A K Shekbabba from Adoor, believed to be the kingpin of the racket, and who happens to be the uncle of Riaz, succeeded in evading arrest, although the police team had conducted operations to nab him on Monday and Tuesday nights.
A gang had assaulted a team led by deputy tahisldar, Basavaraj Palloti and other revenue department officials, during the abovbove raid. Death threats were also posed to the team members. The taluk tahsildar had later rushed a police team to the rescue of the team. Stock of sand, two tippers and a motor bike, approximately valued at Rs 80 lac, were confiscated by the team from the spot later.
