Mangaluru, Feb 6: Nabard Karnataka chief general manager, Neeraj Kumar Varma visited Talipady Weavers Society Kinnigoli, where Udupi Saree Weavers Training Programme conducted by Kadike Trust, Karkala with Nabard Grant was in progress.
Presently, twenty trainees are being trained in Udupi saree weaving and other processes in a six-month duration course.
Neearaj Varma interacted with each individual weaver trainee and senior weavers, and expressed his satisfaction on the quality of the products.
He explained the importance of weaving as a profession in the present scenerio.
Later in a function, the trainees shared their experiences. Mamatha Rai, president of Kadike Trust gave a presentation on the revival work and training programme details and the progress achieved in the revival work after the intervention of Kadike Trust with Nabard Grant.
Sangeetha Kartha D D M Nabard, Mangaluru encouraged the trainees about their progress in learning. Ananda Shettigar, president of Talipady Weavers Society, Madhava Shettigar M D of Society, senior weavers, trainers and members of the society were present.
Chikkappa Shetty, secretary of Kadike Trust compered the programme.
Kadike Trust with the objective of nurturing sustainable rural livelihood took up the revival of Udupi saree weaving which was on the verge of extinction three years ago and brought back Udupi saree weaving on the revival path.
