Mangalore, Jun 24: Monsoon rains gained in intensity on Wednesday June 23 after a brief lull. Most of the regions within the twin-districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada experienced good rains, with Dharmasthala getting seven cms of rain, which happened to be the highest in the state.
The cloudy weather paved way for torrential rains as afternoon approached. Power supply and telephone lines were disrupted in a few places. The city and surrounding areas got rains on Wednesday morning too. Kundapur, Karkala and Udupi taluks also received good rains. Rainwater entered low-lying areas near the Pinto’s Lane in the city and in many places within the city, water was seen gushing on the roads.
Bantwal received six cms of rain, while the city got five cms. In most other places, the rainfall ranged from two to four cms.
The meteorological department has predicted rains to continue on Thursday too.
