Shimoga, Jun 23: On Tuesday June 22, former minister, Kumar Bangarappa, launched a verbal tirade against his father, former Chief Minister and MP, Bangarappa, accusing him of driving Congress party to the verge of extinction in the district.
He recalled that Bangarapa had called upon the people to defeat the candidates loyal to Kumar Bangarappa in the recent gram panchayat election. Kumar claimed that his supporters, who were fielded on behalf of the party, had won most of the seats in Sorab taluk, whereas Bangarappa’s men had tasted utter defeat in the latter’s own native place, Kubatoor. He accused Bangarappa of giving an open call to the Congress leaders to finish the political future of the former.
He criticized district Congress president, Prasanna Kumar, for the latter’s statement that another meeting would be held in Sorab and Anavatti for electing office bearers. He stressed that the party meetings earlier convened by him were in tune with the constitution and regulations of the party and that there is no need to elect office bearers of the party again. He accused Prasanna Kumar of acting at the behest of Bangarappa. He charged Bangarappa of leaving and joining the Congress several times, for his own benefit.
Some former legislators and followers of Kumar Bangarappa were present at the press conference. Earlier in the day, supporters of Kumar laid siege to the district Congress office and raised slogans against Prasanna Kumar, demanding his resignation. Kumar Bangarappa said that he has already sent complaints against Bangarappa’s anti-party activities to the state unit of the party and the central leadership.
