Udupi, Jun 21: Keeping in mind the increasing rate of diabetes in India, a ‘Comprehensive Diabetic Care Centre’ has been started at Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Doddanagudde, here.
The hospital in association with IMA charitable trust held the inaugural ceremony at IMA Hall Brahmagiri on Sunday June 20. Free health check- up was conducted between 8.30 to 9.30 am where many diabetics underwent blood sugar tests.
Dr N R Rao, professor and senior physician, department of medicine, KMC Manipal inaugurated the programme. U R Acharya, managing trustee, Dr A V Baliga Charities, Mumbai presided.
There was a series of guest lectures by various experts in the field. Dr Krishna Acharya spoke on effective control of diabetes, Dr Neeta, ophthalmologist, KMC Manipal delivered a talk on ‘Diabetes and eye care’. Professor Ananta Nagappa Naik, HOD, MCOPS, Manipal spoke on ‘Living with daibetes’. Sally Jose demonstrated the preparation of diabetic diet recipes
Various informative stalls were held which gave detailed information about diet and life style to be followed in diabetics. Around 75 Diabetics participated in the program and were benefited out of it.
Dr Virupaksha Devaramane, consultant psychiatrist, Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi welcomed the gathering. Prabha was the master of ceremony and Jeevan Lewis delivered the vote of thanks.
