It was a sad father'day for all of us, his children, the players of Rajasthan CC and me a Times journalist for whom GR was a father. He always liked my company and called me thrice a week. My family would have a Sunday idli breakfast at his home with all his sons present. He was an exemplar as to how a cricketer should be in life after sport. He served Mekaster brilliantly and they wanted him even at the age of 80.
That he played tennis til about a year ago testified to his fitness.
A pity God took him away when all wanted him. Maybe God was looking for a lost Father on Father's day.
    Cheers
