Cape Town, Jun 19 (DPA): The English Football Association has complained to FIFA after a fan furious at his team's 0-0 draw with Algeria managed to barge into the England dressing room to confront players.
England fans booed their side after Friday evening's Group C draw at Cape Town's Green Point stadium, but one supporter's anger carried him through layers of FIFA security - something that infuriated the FA.
"It's not our security people's fault, they do a sterling job wherever they go," the FA's Communications Director Adrian Bevington said. "I'm sure FIFA will accept responsibility for this and we have to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Media reports in England claimed that the fan confronted David Beckham - travelling with the squad despite injury - before being hustled out by stewards.
The FA would only say that heated comments were directed at the under-performing England squad. The security breach came shortly after British royals, Princes William and Harry, left the dressing room.
Tensions were high after England's second insipid draw in a row, which leaves them needing victory against Slovenia Wednesday to ensure qualification.
Striker Wayne Rooney, who has failed to find any kind of form in the tournament so far, blasted the fans who chose to vocalise their disappointment.
"Nice to see your home fans boo you, that's loyal supporters," he shouted at a TV camera as he walked off the pitch.
