Udupi, Jan 26: The country is celebrating its 72nd Republic Day. It is also the day of the Constitution, saluting the image of the constitutional architect Dr B R Ambedkar. Inviting members of the constitutional committee to explain the significance of this day by giving the people the power of modernism, Dr Herald Ivan Monis, principal of Shirva St Mary's College, as the chief guest of the student body, called on the world community to celebrate the glory of India and to spread the glory of India to the globe of the great Indian community, by forgetting religion, caste and parochialism.

The event was held under the command of the regimental forces. Every Indian should strive for a clean India concept and contribute to the progress of the country. The Republic Day message addressed the need for respect for the late Mahatma to be recognized and appreciated by Abhimana.

A cleanup programme was held under the aegis of various departments of the college.

The parade was preceded by cadet senior under officer, Bhat Ram Das Satish, jr under officer Pravita Acharya, Rion Rishi Alphonso, sergeant Major Pratima Acharya and Sergeant Raina Andrade.

Irene Mendonza, the principal of the PU college, Gilbert Pinto, high school headmaster, primary school headmistress Pauline Lobo, NSS officer Premanath, Raksha, Rovers Scout leader Prakash, Rangers leader Sangeetha Poojary, student leaders: Akshay, Surekha, Franklin Mathias, Pratiksha, other faculty and non-faculty relatives of the campus were present at the event. Second officer, John William Vegas proposed the vote of thanks and the college NCC officer lieutenant K Praveenkumar welcomed the gathering and compered the celebrations.
