Mangalore, Jun 18: The DK district deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, through a notification has banned re laden trucks on Mangalore – Bangalore NH 17 with effect from Sunday June 20 to November 15.
In the back drop of plying of heavy vehicular traffic on NH 17 in the district which causes maximum damage to highways especially during the monsoon season, the district administration has taken early measures to safeguard the smooth flow of passenger traffic.
The passenger buses and other motorists face the brunt of worsened state of Shiradi Ghat, a vital lifeline to reach state capital through NH 48 during monsoon. The breakdown of tankers and mishaps on Shiradi Ghat results in serpentine queues of stalled vehicles. It also causes delays to the stranded passengers to reach their destinations.
