Kasargod, Jun 18: The policemen succeeded in arresting Riaz from Periyatadka, who was one of the two notorious criminals, who had succeeded in escaping from their prison cells on June 13 night. He was nabbed from the town on Thursday June 17. It may be noted that Jayanand, the other inmate of the cell in which Riaz was lodged, was arrested on June 16.
A team led by town deputy superintendent of police, Vikraman, who tracked the calls being made by Riaz from a mobile phone while moving about in car, arrested him from Kote Road here. Riaz was making use of a mobile phone belonging to his lover, to escape getting noticed by the policemen, it is said.
Riaz was facing life imprisonment relating to two murders and 30 thefts. He is also an under-trial prisoner relating to several other theft cases in Karnataka and Kerala, besides being an accused in the murder of Hamid from Uppala Kaikamba in the district.
