Kasargod, Jan 16: Donors, in an effort to provide some succour to endosulfan victims by providing houses to them, had built 59 houses at a huge cost. However, the Kerala government has shown utter neglect to the feelings of the donors as a result of which these 59 houses are on the verge of becoming fragile and dilapidated.
Sri Satya Sai Abhayashram Trust, Thiruvananthapuram, had undertaken a scheme to build 81 houses for the endosulfan victims in Kasargod district. Forty-five were built at Peria Kattumunda in Pullur Peria panchayat while 36 were built at Bajakoodlou Kana in Enmakaje panchayat. Out of them, 22 houses built at Peria have been handed over to the beneficiaries. The remaining 23 houses and 36 more at Kana have been lying in a state of neglect.
The houses at Kana have no road and electricity supply as the government has not provided them. As the road leading to the complex passes through someone else's land, an alternative road has to be found. Water tank with a capacity of 50,000 litres has not yet been built. The trust plans to build a play park, hall and a mini township here but waiting for the government to provide basic infrastructure.
Recently, Kerala state Human Rights Commission had served notice on the district collector about delay in handing over the houses to the beneficiaries and he said that because of technical reasons, the same is delayed, and the houses will be handed over soon.
