Beltangady, Jan 5: Pavan Shetty Ujire, who was accused of raising pro-Pakistani slogans on December 30, clarified at a press conference held here that he never raised such a slogan. He said that already complaint has been filed against those who spread false rumours about him, duly adding that he will also file defamation suit seeking compensation.
Shetty said that on the day the victory celebration took place, he had just visited Ujire and went back. "I was wearing a blue shirt the whole day there and someone has edited a photo where I had worn white shirt. This is a conspiracy hatched against me, and this is a big lie," he asserted.
Pavan Shetty said that three persons have been named in the complaint filed by him. Speaking here on Sunday, he said that some people tried to defame him by uploading a post along with his photo in social media. He said he has never hailed Pakistan and will never do that in future. He accused SDPI activists of spreading malicious information about him.
On December 30, gram panchayat election result was being announced, BJP and SDPI activists had gathered at the counting centre at Ujire. As and when the candidates supported by them won they used to raise slogans. It is alleged that at that time, a slogan praising Pakistan came from the crowd of SDPI followers. A video of the incident had become viral. Beltangady police stated that six persons have already been taken into custody in this connection.
