Beltangady, Dec 23: The police have been investigating the robbery which happened at the residence of Nooje Tukrappa Shetty, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, who lives with his family in a house that is a little away from other houses, from all the angles. The robbers had tied up Shetty and stabbed his wife before taking away gold ornaments weighing about 400 grams and Rs 1,50,000 in cash.

The robbers had covered their faces with clothes. However, their body structures and gait suggested that they could be in the age group of 25 to 30 years. When the robbers were leaving, one of the robbers picked up Shetty's child that was weeping. Then the cloth covering his face had partially slid down and the family members could see that there was a tumour on his face.

Tukrappa Shetty used to hold his gun when opening the door of the house during late night hours. However, as the guns have been deposited in the police station as per the election rules, the gun was not available when the robbers came. This came as a blessing in disguise for the robbers. It may be recalled that several farmers have been demanding that guns of people who do not have criminal backgrounds should be allowed to be kept with them even during the elections.

The robbers used Kannada to communicate between them and Tulu to converse with the daughter of Shetty who was warned for shouting for help.

The person who injured Geetha Shetty gave water to her to drink before leaving, and touched her feet to express respect, and advised her to get an ambulance and get treated in a hospital. This has made the people to believe that the robbers would have been the beneficiaries of Shetty's kindness in the past, as Shetty is known to be an altruist who entertains everyone and extended possible help.
