Karkala, Dec 20: Two groups, both belonging to BJP, on Saturday December 19 fought over nomination issues related to gram panchayat elections that will be held shortly.
One group attacked the other demanding withdrawal of the nomination filed by BJP candidate Shalini, apparently in support of a Congress candidate.
It is said that on Saturday at around 11 am, two persons identified as Nikhil Rane and Mahavir Rane reached Kuntalpadi of Erlapady village in an autorickshaw that belonged to one Rajesh. In the meantime, Santhosh Rane, Sandesh Rane and Sudeep Rane alias Gundu approached the same spot from Bailoor in a Fashion Pro motorbike and waylaid the auto rickshaw being driven by Rajesh.

Santhosh Rane allegedly pulled Rajesh's collar, forced him out of the vehicle and threatened him against supporting Shalini of BJP and told him to make her withdraw her nomination.
Accused Santhosh and Sandesh allegedly also pulled Nikhil Rane from the autorickshaw and punched his face and kicked him on his back. Santhosh Rane also threatened Rajesh, Nikhil and Mahavir that he would chop off their legs and hands if they came for election campaigning to Ranekeri.
The injured have been admitted to Karkala government hospital. All those involved in the fight belong to BJP. It is said that support to a Congress candidate by one group was the reason for the scuffle.
A case in this regard is registered in Karkala police station
