Beltangady, Dec 19: In a rare to find feat in the present generation, Shamsuddin, student of Keddu high school, studying in the ninth standard, has taken interest in agriculture and is planning to develop the farm grown by his late grandfather.
Grandfather of Shamsuddin, late Palasthadka Soofi Byari was famous for mango crop in Aladangadi during his life time. His Mango orchard near the Badagakarandoor School was widely known to the public for nearly five decades. However, after his death none of the later generation showed interest in nurturing the mango orchard. Now, his grandson Shamsuddin has come forward and has the dream of developing the farm.
Shamsuddin had grown various varieties of vegetables and banana, though proper water facility, manure and pesticides are not available to him. He has also grown plants that have medicinal properties.
Shamsuddin's grandmother and mother are rolling beedis for living. The income from the vegetable and flowers grown by Shamsuddin helps in making ends meet. He has the only intention of preserving the farm developed by his late grandfather. Huge mango trees of various varieties can be seen on the one acre of land which were planted by his late grandfather.
Shamsuddin says, "I have not seen my grandfather. But have heard of his achievements in agriculture from my grandmother and neighbours. I intend to start a nursery which has the capacity of one lac plants. I am trying to preserve the farm, along with my studies."
