Mangaluru, Dec 19: In an incident that occurred on the night of Friday, December 18 at Tannirbhavi point in the city, students of a college misbehaved with the police who were on duty late in the night.
The students were returning after having party at Tannirbhavi when the police stopped them in order to check. The youths not only resisted the police but also pelted stones at them. Moreover, when the police tried to catch the youths, they assaulted the police and also tried to snatch the rifle from them.
Later, more police personnel were rushed to the spot and the youths were taken into custody. It is learnt that the four who are taken into custody are students of a college situated at Neermarga. Rest of the students escaped from the spot.
The police force is on alert in the city in the wake of first anniversary of anti-CAA riots that occurred in the city in December last year. Day and night checks and police armed with rifles are deployed at strategic points.
It may also be recalled that few days before a youth had attacked a policeman on duty with sword near New Chithra talkies in the city in broad daylight.
