Bengaluru: Election heat - Liquor worth Rs 925 crore sold in eight days

Bengaluru, Dec 19: Even as gram panchayat elections are approaching, liquor sales are soaring to a new high. In eight days, liquor sale of Rs 925 crore was achieved.

Between December 7 and 16, Indian made liquor and beer worth Rs 925 crore was sold in the state, even though December 12 and 13 were holidays. This figure was provided by the excise department officials. In the light of the gram panchayat election on December 22 and 27, this figure may reach Rs 1,000 crore during the next six to eight days.

It is said that each candidate is buying liquor worth up to two lac rupees. The department had incurred heavy losses due to coronavirus lockdown. Now, with the gram panchayat election approaching, the liquor sale has increased and the officials of the department are happy. Some also claim that cool temperature has also contributed to the rise in liquor sales.
