Bengaluru: 27 gram panchayats including Mangaluru villages to be excluded from polls

Bengaluru, Dec 6: The state Election Commission (SEC) has decided not to hold elections for 27 gram panchayats in the state as they have been upgraded to urban local bodies.

Out of the 5,762 gram panchayats in the state, elections will be held only for 5,735 gram panchayats.

Election to Hosadu gram panchayat of Kundapur taluk has been withheld as there is a dispute pending before the regional commissioner of Mysuru questioning the inclusion of Senapur village to Hosadu gram panchayat.


The gram panchayats in which the elections will not be held are Kinnigoli of Mangaluru taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, Mannabettu, Kateel (Kondemoola), Hosadu gram panchayat of Kundapur taluk in the district of Udupi, Manki (Guladkeri) of Honnavar taluk in the district of Uttara Kannada, Manki-A (Halemara), Manki-B (Anantawadi), Manki-C (Chittara), Chikkabanavara, Hunasemaranahalli of Yelahanka taluk, Somashettyhalli of Bengaluru North taluk of Bengaluru urban district, Peeranawadi gram panchayat, Yaragatti of Yaragatti taluk in the district of Belagavi, Kagewada of Athani taluk, Bashettyhalli of Doddaballapur taluk of Bengaluru rural district, Kaggalipura of Bengaluru South taluk, Sonnappanahalli, Macche of Belagavi taluk, H Kadadakatte of Honnali taluk of Davanagere district, Guthuru of Harihara taluk, Vemagal of Kolar taluk of Kolar district, Kurugal, Shettyhalli, Chowdadevanahalli, Jalahalli of Devadurga taluk of Raichur district, Chinchodi and Karadigudda.

The SEC also informed that all the gram panchayats in Chikkamagaluru will go to polls in the first phase on December 22 in view of Datta Jayanti celebrations beginning December 27. The second phase of the gram panchayat polls will be held on December 27.
