Mangaluru, Dec 5: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Dr K V Rajendra, asked the city buses to fix GPS systems in their vehicles within a period of 15 days without fail. He warned that failing compliance, permits of the buses will be cancelled.

He was speaking after presiding over the meeting of the regional transport authority at his office on Friday December 4.

The DC noted that in the past, instructions had been issued to the city buses several times to fix GPS systems and asserted that the deadline this time cannot be extended under any circumstances. He asked the city bus owners to comply with GPS rules without fail within 15 days or face legal action.

"There are 320 city buses here. Out of them, GPS has been fixed only for 70 buses," the transport officials said.

City Bus Owners Association president, Dilraj Alva, said that the bus owners have already been conveyed of the need to fix GPS.

The DC asked the transport department to submit the age-wise details of vehicles moving in the city to his office. He asked the transport office to specifically mention the buses that are five to ten year sold and also ten to 15 years. He advised the concerned to be careful when issuing fitness certificates. Mangaluru regional transport officer Varneker, district superintendent of police Laxmi Prasad, and deputy commissioner of the city corporation here, Santosh Kumar, were present.

The DC also asked the transport department to hold a meeting with the presence of police officers about auto rickshaw license renewal, license for new auto rickshaws and other problems faced by auto rickshaw drivers.
