Kundapur, Dec 4: On Wednesday, a stone edict dating back to the period of Vijayanagara empire was found in the agricultural field of Janardana Sherigar near Santavara Lord Veeranjaneya temple in Kandavara village.
The edict has the sign of the sun with the message, 'let this remain eternally till the sun and the moon last'. In the left, along with the stone form of the bull, 'Nandi', a Lingam of Lord Shiva is carved. On the right side of the Lingam are a pedestal holding a lamp and a sword. This is learnt to be the edict belonging to 15th or 16th century AD (about 400 to 500 years old).
The edict was discovered by Pradeep Kumar Basrur, who has an interest in the study of history, under the guidance of history researcher Dr Kishore Kumar Shetty. Bharat Gudigar and Janardana Sherigar supported them.
