Puttur, Dec 3: The skill and determination shown by ambulance driver Haneef, in taking a woman suffering from lung-related complications from Puttur to Bengaluru within a short time has come in for a lot of praise from the general public.
Suhana (22) was to undergo emergency surgery in her lungs. Haneef took her from Mahavir Hospital Puttur to Vydehi Hospital, Whitefield, Bengaluru. He took the Uppinangady-Guruvayanakere-Ujire-Charmadi Ghat route and succeeded in reaching Mudigere handpost in one and half hours. He then took the Belur route to reach Vydehi Hospital. The entire journey took just 4.05 hours.
The people, locals, and organizations, helped the police on the route of the ambulance in facilitating 'zero traffic' passage. The ambulance which left Puttur at 11 am on Wednesday December 2 reached Mudigere handpost at 12.35 pm. As WhatsApp messages seeking zero traffic facility had been conveyed, teams of young men in Banakal, Kottigehara etc stood by the roadside and arranged for the ambulance to move without hassles. Social activist from Banakal, Muhammed Arif, and members of organizations helped the ambulance to move ahead smoothly. This humanitarian concern exhibited by people came in for all-round appreciation.
Ambulance driver Haneef, said that every life is invaluable and saving it is the utmost humanitarian duty. He said that with the help of people in general and friends, he could carry the patient within a short period to Bengaluru. Banakal police sub-inspector, Srinath Reddy, said that the police cooperated with the people with humanitarian concern to save a life.
