Vijayapur: Mother-son duo risk life to carry 100 kg grass for sheep

Daijiworld Media Network - Vijayapur (MS)

Vijayapur, Dec 2: A mother and her son risk their lives to feed their sheep. On the bike that the son has, they transport nearly 100 kg of grass in one trip. Mother sits above the heap of grass on the bike while the son rides it.

The youth who takes this risk is Santhosh Shiroora and his mother who gives him company in this work is Mayavva Shiroora. This scene can be witnessed between Muttagi Cross-Gonala on NH 50 that connects Vijayapur with Hospet in the district.

The duo leaves their house every day at 7 am and return to their home in Gonala at around 11 am with 100 kg of grass. As the rains were heavy this year, the grass has grown too long. Every day they commute 16 km in this manner to gather grass to feed their sheep.

Mayavva and Santhosh have 60 sheep with them and 30 lambs. The milk-fed by the mother is not enough for the lambs. The grass helps them to grow strong. That is why the mother and son bring the grass from 16 km away. They need a litre of petrol every day. If the same amount of grass needs to be purchased from the market, they need to pay around Rs 500 to 600. But the mother and son save Rs 400 to 500 by taking a risk in this manner.

Both mother and son say that they are not scared about the danger of riding with a huge heap of grass on a bike. They say that farmers are born to take risks especially when it comes to feeding their animals.

This way of transportation of grass or hay is too risky. Over and above making his mother to sit on load of grass. This grass may even resist free movement of the motorcycle.
Best thing is to attach some extra cart well designed and custom built so that he can accommodate some fly members with proper care and safety.
    Always safety first.

He can device a trailer with 2 wheels attached to the bike thereby facilitating more safe and comfortable travel and transport together. I've seen passenger's carrying such attachments in some Asian countries.

Rightly said. See the way his mother sitting on the top of stock of grass without any support. Its very risky . A trailer attached to the bike would be best. Grass stays on trailer. His mother can sit on the seat properly.

Life is tough. We lost huge land to unconstitutional land reforms act, we had to sell remaining land to pay out bank agriculture loans, my father was left with 5000 rs and we lost all land nearly 50 acre and didn't have even a own house left....yet my father started a food industry, sold products in his bike, today we give employment to more than 40 people, we are again well off, thanks to the fighting spirit of my father, who is no more.....life is always tough, we should not lose hope.

Risk hain tho Ishq hain. Indians born to take risk. In India each n everything is like taking risk. Walking beside the road is risky due to bad drivers. Travelling is risku due to bad roads. As I earlier said instead of thinking gomatha religion and love jihad its time to think about providing basic neccessities to the people voted.
