Billava Brigade to hold bike rally demanding renaming of Mangaluru airport after Koti Chennaya

Mangaluru, Dec 1: Billava Brigade Mangaluru will hold a bike rally on December 7 from Kudroli temple to Bajpe airport demanding to rename Mangaluru International Airport after Tulunadu bravehearts Koti Chennaya, informed Avinash Suvarna, founder president of Billava Brigade.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday December 1, chief convener Koti Chennaya Sanchalana Samiti, Sathyajith Surathkal said, "During 2019, the proposal of renaming the airport to Koti Chennaya airport was approved in zilla panchayat meeting which was later sent to the state government. The proposal of recommending name to the airport should go through gram panchayat, zilla panchayat then to state government which will later be sent to the central government. This is the process that should be followed.

"Now we are planning to take up a bike rally on December 7 from Kudroli temple to Bajpe airport demanding to rename Mangaluru International Airport to Koti Chennaya Airport where several other organizations will join hands demanding the same.

"The legal process has been done in the name of Koti Chennaya, while the file is still pending with the state government. So measures should be taken to rename the airport to Koti Chennaya airport," he said.

Samiti embers Suraj Kalya, Jeevan Poojary Prakash Sanil and Ashwath Uppala were present.

    @Jagadish, Mangalore/Bangalore,Yes I agree with sir. Present day political leaders are only for cutting the ribbon and posing for the photo session.Forget about making airport,they wouldn't have dreamt about the airport.Only because pf Srinivas Mallya,today we can boast of having our own airport.
    As far as International recognition is concerned,all the NRI's from different gulf countries relentlessly fought and made it possible of having international airport.
    However still we can not call it as an international airport because only flights from gulf countries are departing and arriving,not from any other countries.
    When we are having so many domestic burning issues to be solved,why we are after renaming of Mangalore international airport.First of all you put pressure on political leaders to resolve so many domestic burning issues and then focus on other areas.

    Many people have suggested many different names for the renaming of Mangalore International Airport.Nothing wrong in it.But according to my opinion,name of the person who had contributed more and played a key role for the development of the coastal Karnataka region should be kept for their remembrance or memory.Which should cover entire coastal Karnataka region starting from Kasargod to Kundapura.
    Many names have been suggested by different people like Rani Abbaka,Tulunadu,George Fernandes and Kudla.Koti Chennaya etc.That is their fundamental rights to suggest names.But to the best of my understanding U Srinivas Mallya had contributed more for the developments of Mangalore and hence U Srinivaas Mallya International Airport also can be used considering his contribution or else Tulunadu International Airport can be kept. This is only a suggestion,rest is up to the department and authorities concerned.
    One more question is arising in my mind is,when Mangalore International Airport is already there,is it necessary to rename with other names.Mangalore is already recognised and established across the globe and why there is the need for changing the name now just to make the people get confused.
    Mangalore's name is already in everybody's lips of the people all over the world because of Port,Educational institutions,International Airport and other trading centres.
    I don't know whether it is for the political mileage or any personal gain, why people are running after changing the existing Mangalore International Airport to other names.
    If at all anybody is in the hunt for changing the name,I would personally suggest either U.Srinivas Mallya's name or Tulunadu international airport.Otherwise let it be like the existing one.This is my personal opinion and request don't politicise it.

    Did you guys forget the AI express overshot tragedy that killed 150+ people due to shorter runway.
    Instead of demanding to extend the runway, you guys are busy in renaming the airport.

    It should be named as Ullal Srinivas Mallya International Airport who is responsible to having airport at Mangalore. If not he our present politicians in our district would have definitely not made airport in Mangalore as they are always seen Mangalore press for the entire day.

    At the end of the day it would be either Koti Chennayya or Rani Abbakka as it is in accordance with the trend of Airports being named in Karnataka after Kempegowda ,Rani Chennamma, Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna .

    Technically speaking None of the names you mentioned have contributed to development of todays Mangalore..!..Let Mangalore be Mangalore itself......Regarding bengaluru, kempegowda had actually contributed to development of planned bengaluru..so that is fine for there.

    Use these energy and effort to get connectivity to "Mangaluru International Airport" or dedicate it to the original brain behind the airport, U Srinivasa Mallya.

    Koti Chennaya, Kalurti, Panjurli etc., can be considered. But people outside Mangalore also should be able to relate with such names. An airport or port etc., are gateway to the city.

    Can anyone tell what is KSR in KSR-Bengaluru? This is the name of Bangalore railway station.

    The Financial and Economical conditions are going to worse day by day, Country has reached recession point. Why all these rally programs. I feel better to settle amicably and insist the name 'ADANI 's KOTI CHENNAYA MANGALORE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. ' I think it will be proper and settle with out any dispute.
