Mangalore, May 18. Former union minister, Janardan Poojary, felt that minister Janardana Reddy lacks legal knowledge. Poojary was addressing a press conference convened here on Monday May 17 to rebut Reddy’s tirades against the state Governor.
“As per article 192 of the People’s Representation Act, the Governor is empowered to summon a minister. Further, Reddy does not seem to have read the Supreme Court order on the Obalapuram Mining Company case, granting him temporary reprieve,” Poojary commented. He said that the Supreme Court had clearly told the Reddys that they cannot conduct mining activities in disputed areas, instead of giving him a clean chit as claimed by the minister. He criticized Reddy for misleading the people of the state.
He also came down on the state government for remaining a mute spectator to illegal mining. He said that the state government had withdrawn the move to levy a fee of Rs 1,000 for every truckload of iron ore, after Reddy brothers threatened the Chief Minister.
Poojary also slammed the government for protecting Sri Rama Sene leader, Pramod Mutalik, even after a sting operation brought out his real colours.
