Chikkamagaluru, Nov 28: On Friday November 27, D M Srinivas, son of Yagati Malleshappa, a retired KSRTC employee, and D T Kavya, daughter of Thamme Gowda from Kanivedasara Halli, became man and wife at a ceremony organised at the Vakkaligara Bhavana hall here. The two fell in love and wholeheartedly accepted each other as their life partner in spite of the fact that both of them are mute by birth.

Absence of words did not deter these two youngsters from exchanging their love and ideas about life. Both have studied in the schools here meant for the differently-abled for a couple of years. They had seen each other when young and had been friends, but were not acquainted with each other well. Srinivas, when on a visit to another district, had participated in the sports meet organised at the district playground a year ago for the differently-abled. Kavya too had come there. The two met and fell in love. The sports meet was held on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and that was the day they fell for each other.

The two kept in touch through video calls on mobile phones where they exchanged views by way of signs, and later, with the consent of parents, entered wedded life. The marriage hall had several boards asking the people to always wear masks. The couple also wore masks. Over 30 mute friends of the couple attended the function.

The two could not speak since birth. Kavya used to help her parents with household work while Srinivas has been an expert in making bakery items. His father says that Srinivas, through his culinary skills, has been earning handsomely. At the advice of the doctor, Srinivas was sent to schools in different towns till fourth standard but he could not learn to speak. He continued education till ninth standard before choosing to get involved with business. Kavya's mother, Kusuma Thammegowda says that she is elated that her daughter and Srinivas fell in love with each other even though they cannot speak, and said the two families wholeheartedly accepted the marriage proposal and performed the marriage with a happy and relieved mind.

Congratulations to Srinivas and Kavya. Wish you both a happy married life and God bless you abundantly. Even though muteness failed in your life but love never failed.
