Mangaluru: Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi marks decennial year with grand parish feast

Mangaluru, Feb 11: Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi, was blessed and inaugurated on January 2, 2015. This year on Sunday, February 9 the Decennial year and parish feast was celebrated in a grand manner. In the morning the celebration began with the procession carrying the statue of Infant Mary, the patroness of the parish.

Then the concelebrated Holy Eucharist was celebrated presided over by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop Emeritus of Mangalore diocese. Around 30 priests concelebrated along with Fr Silvestre D’Souza, provincial superior, and many sisters and faithful participated. All the benefactors of the church and the feast were felicitated.

A mega Fency Fete was organised on the church grounds with many games, food stall and Housie Housie.

In the evening a cultural evening was staged. Fr Silvestre D’Souza, provincial superior, presided over the function. Ivan D’Souza, MLC, was the chief guest. James Mendonsa, entrepreneur; Joachim Stany Alvares, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy; Fr Archibald Gonsalves, vicar provincial; Fr Melvin D’Cunha, superior, Carmel Hill; Fr Dominic vas, parish priest; Prakash Saldhana, PPC vice president; Elizabeth Pereira, secretary, were the guests of honour.

Ivan D’Souza appreciated the developmental projects in Bajjodi church and congratulated Fr Dominic vas, parish priest, for his selfless service to the parish and the parishioners. Fr Silvestre D’Souza, provincial, in his brief message explained the significance of the Decennial celebration.

The cultural evening included beautiful dances, Konkani Kavali, short drama and Powerpoint presentation on the beginnings and history of the parish. All the Gurkars, former parish priests and those who rendered their services to the parish were also felicitated.

The whole programme concluded with sumptuous dinner to all.
