Kunapur, May 18: The policemen of Bhatkal town police station have taken into custody three journalists from the taluk for interrogation. The pressmen were taken away for interrogation relating to a complaint of blackmail filed against against them by a contractor.
The complainant in question, M H Hamid, a contractor from Taggaragod in Jali near Bhatkal, had filed a complaint with the policemen, saying that Abdul Majeed, a reporter of a publication from Navunda named ‘Professional Reporter’, Anduka from ‘Indian News’ and K P Manjunath Ganiga from ‘Mithra’ newspaper had blackmailed him. He said that these three persons came to his house and pressurized him to part with money. “They threatened me by saying that they would publish defamatory write ups about me, if I refuse to accede to their demand. They coerced me into giving them money as demanded,” he had said in the complaint.
Bhatkal town police station sub-inspector, Manjunath Gowda, has registered the case. The three journalists are being subjected to intensive interrogation.
