Bijapur, May 10: After a truck hit a Tumtum vehicle parked by the roadside on Sunday May 9 near Hadagali on Sindagi-Bijapur Road, six persons, including a two year-old child, were killed. Five persons, who were critically wounded in the accident, were admitted into private and government hospitals in the city.
The accident occurred at a private stand Tumtum vehicles, which ferry commuters to city from Hadagali village. On Sunday afternoon, a truck loaded with cement bags, swerved aside suddenly and crushed the ill-fated Tumtum vehicle, even as the unsuspecting driver of the vehicle was waiting for a few more passengers before driving off the vehicle to its destination from the stand.
The deceased have been identified as Seetaram Chaju Rathod (50), Jayashree Gopal Rathod (30), Mahadevi Nathu Rathod (35), Ratnaibai Motasingh Rathod (36), Shantabai Chauhan (38) and Pravin Rathod (2), all from Hadagali Tanda.
The truck was being driven recklessly. The fact that after turning the Tumtum into a bundle of mangled steel, it went ahead and hit a tree, besides damaging two parked motor bikes and three petty shops, proves that the truck was being driven at high speed.
