Udupi, May 8: An official of the survey department, who had been caught red-handed by the Lokayukta policemen, was found guilty by a court here.
A surveyor named George had conducted the survey of a land belonging to Ranjit from Mudoor village in Kundapur taluk in the year 2005. However, when Ranjit approached the department for a sketch of the land, supervisor in the department, Dhananjaya, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 500. After Rajit filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police, the official was caught while accepting the bribe.
District and session judge here, K B Changappa, sentenced the accused to one year’s simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. This was the first case to have been registered in the Lokayukta police station here, after it was set up in the year 2005.
